Professor Manuel Sarasa

President, CEO and CSO

Manuel Sarasa is the Chief Scientific Officer of Araclon Biotech S.L., which he founded in 2004. He is a neurobiologist and embryologist, as well as Professor of Comparative Anatomy and Pathology at the University of Zaragoza. He has over 30 years of experience in basic research, and more than 20 years of experience researching Alzheimer’s disease. He holds various biotechnology patents related to the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

He has over 50 scientific articles published in internationally recognised journals and books. His laboratory has isolated, sequenced and communicated around 40 genes to the Gene Bank, the majority of which are related to Alzheimer’s disease. As a researcher, he was responsible for more than a dozen research projects. He was Director of the Neurobiology Laboratory at the University of Zaragoza (1993-2007), and won the ‘Aragonese of the Year’ award in 2004 for Science and Research. He was later awarded the 2009 Scientific Research prize from the CEAFA (Spanish Confederation of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients), and “Alto Aragonese of the Year” (Alto Aragon being the northern-most territories of the region) in 2010.

Pedro Pesini

Head, Research and Development

Head of Laboratory at Araclon Biotech since September 2007. Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomy and Embryology, he worked for 20 years in the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Lugo) where he was also Vice Dean of Academic Planning for 3 years.

Expert in chemical neuroanatomy and brain aging, he worked at the University of Bristol (England), in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dalhousie, in Halifax (Canada), and in the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm (Sweden). He has published over 20 scientific articles in well-renowned journals and has presented more than 30 papers at international conferences. He is the author of various articles in scientific books and has participated in over a dozen research projects.

Itziar San José

Head of Quality and Clinical Trials Coordinator

Joined Araclon Biotech, S.L. when it was first established in 2004. She holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine and an Executive MBA from I.B.S.

Itziar has significant experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry as a result of 10 years working for Merck, Sharp & Dohme and Laboratorios CEPA Schwarz Pharma. She has also participated in several research studies in the School of Veterinary Science and has co-authored various papers and conference communications.

José Luis Uliaque

Head of Marketing and Business Development

Joined Araclon Biotech in 2005, helping to design the company’s initial Strategic Business Plan. He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Masters in Marketing and Sales Management from the Escuela Superior de Marketing y Negocios of Madrid.

José Luis Uliaque has more than 15 years’ experience in the coordination and development of projects with pharmaceutical/healthcare teams, with work as Institutional Marketing Manager at Laboratorios Esteve being a stand out.
